Betty Blue: The Director’s Cut – to be released for the first time in US Theatres. Quintessential French cinema, BETTY BLUE is an uninhibited and tumultuous story of an obsessive relationship that descends into madness. Zorg, an aspiring novelist who gets by as a handyman at a dilapidated beach resort, is happy with his life until he meets Betty; beautiful, wild and unpredictable. Life with Betty becomes a carnival ride filled with prolific sex and increasingly madcap adventures, until Betty’s mental state turns dark. Released in 1986, the film became a cult sensation for its full-frontal nudity and explicit sex while introducing effervescent Beatrice Dalle to the world. Based on the novel by Philippe Dijan.
WINNER - Grand Prix Award for Best Film - Montreal Film Festival 1986 NOMINATED - Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film 1987
"Colorful and swirling and oppressive all at once...The ideal date movie for anyone inclined to la folie à deux." David Edelstein, New York Magazine
“One of the best French films of the 80s.” Channel 4 “An entire generation's first experience with cinematic sex. It was so seductively forbidden. Just as we associate certain scents with early sexual experiences, BETTY BLUE is imprinted on the minds of millions of men as the cinematic equivalent of losing their virginity.” Sarah Chauncey, Reel.com
