From the director of Cocaine Cowboys, Square Grouper is a colorful portrait of Miami's pot smuggling scene of the 1970s. In sharp contrast to the brazenly violent cocaine runners of the 1980's, Miami's marijuana smugglers were cooler, calmer, and for the most part, nonviolent. One of the three sections tells the story of a very conservative church whose congregation is very taken with cannabis. Another relates the clever smuggling techniques and misadventures of the "Black Tuna Gang." And finally, the residents of tiny Everglades City turn to smuggling as a supplement to their low incomes.
