 Paradise East is a dark comedy about a desperately dysfunctional lower middle class family fiercely struggling to make it in the twentieth century. Lucky, not your typical dad, runs a coffee shop and has a difficult time dealing with the idiosyncrasies of his two deadbeat sons. Ernie, the oldest, is a wanna-be pimp and street hustler, forever searching for the perfect angle. Chip, the baby, is unemployed with a passion for French fries and underage girls. This is frowned upon by the pious, slightly unorthodox, parish priest who does his best to interact with the members of his flock, assisting them at times in ways that may surprise you. He kills them! ‘Turn from the Serpent,’ he advises, ‘swim in the Blood of our Savior! Resist temptation!’ Sounds like good advice.

Saw this movie yesterday and I have to say ... WOW! The actors were outrageous - Lucky had me hysterical! The music was great too! Kudos to the director and his crew! I will definitely be going to see this one again!

Saw this movie at the NY Internation Film Festival and was blown away! The acting is superb and the story is crazy. I walked out feeling dirty and I wasn't sure why. Looking forward to seeing this again at Cinema Village. This has the making of a HUGE cult hit.

I was offended by this film on so many levels. As a Catholic, to see a vigilante murderous priest is reprehensible. Not to mention the incest, nudity, more murders, etc. The world depicted in Paradise East is dark, dreary and depressing. On the plus side, I have to admit that the acting was exceptional, especially the father and his two sons. At times I felt like I was watching a documentary about a dysfuntional family rather than a film. Like the poster above me, I left feeling dirty but I knew why. This filthy film will probably do well because the world is a sick place.

I really was disturbed by this movie but I thought it was excellent. Great acting, interesting story. I was a bit confused by the end, though.

Having been interfered with as a young man, not only by a Catholic Priest but by a school bus driver, I love that for once a "turned around collar" is on the side of the angels. I am no longer a Catholic and find Paradise East very liberating. I hope it's seen by millions of men like myself who have carried the guilt and shame of child molestation on their shoulders for decades. We must love ourselves and be strong and know that we've done nothing wrong. Those who hurt children or harbor those who hurt children, on the other hand, should be brought to justice.

The blond with the golf club was hot. The retarded brother made me think of my own brother who tried several times to take his own life before finally succeeding. This movie hit home for me on many levels. I thought the lesbian scene was a tasteful nice touch. My cousin is one.

In Paradise East everything goes! The film has guts, sex, humor and sadness. Every character is lost in a world of pain and confusion. And every performance, even the smallest one, is a masterful portrait turned on its side waiting for someone to take a closer look. Do not dismiss this film as more indie T & A. It's much much more if you're ready to question a bit and think a while.
