showtimes and tickets

Víctor, a 17-year-old wheelbarrow leader, dreams of becoming famous, often absorbed by the TV in the appliance store in the Municipal Market. He receives an unusual proposal, to carry seven boxes of unknown content, in exchange for a torn half of a $100 bill. He will get the other half when he finishes the job. Víctor, who has never seen this much money, has no idea how much it really is. But he also knows well that his need is greater than his curiosity.

With a borrowed cell phone the contractor uses to tell him the way, Víctor embarks on the journey. Crossing the eight blocks of the market seemed easy but things get complicated along the way. There is something in those boxes that starts a high-speed wheelbarrow chase in the secret and gloomy corridors of the market. Without even realizing, Víctor and his pursuers will get involved in a crime of which they know nothing.

Given the lack of the Paraguayan cinematographic production, I went to see this film with great skepticism at the 14th edition of the "Havana Film Festival" in New York City. The presenters had only compliments towards the movie; still my skepticism was there. Immediately after the movie started I could already feel the intensity and the high-speed dynamics of it. Putting it in few words, the acting was stunning to where the characters managed to take you right into the scene!...you can’t help but really care for most of them in it, even for some of the “the bad guys”…and his sick son!! There were enough emotional and motivating moments, and even thou things turn out in the most unexpected way, they fulfill the mission of delivering the interesting sides of humans, that no matter how much we have, we always want more...while some people just can be happy with so little!! The director truly achieved the AMAZINGLY MOTIVATED, PATIONATE AND VIBRATING WORK of transporting us to an UNKNOWN WORLD FOR MOST OF US, YET REAL!!

I got a HUGE AND PLEASANT SURPRISE when I saw this film...it was simply SO REAL, SO HUMAN and so educational, that we have so much while many in this world has so little and can be happy with so little...a good reminder of how world really works and how spoiled we are in America!

Despite the fact that paraguay has no cinematographic history this is a great movie that shows life in the a shanty market in Paraguay. Most of the time the characters speak a mix of spanish and guarani. There are numerous of funny scenes which the subtitles might not be able to fully express. The plot itslef is very dramatic and well thought off. Really worth watching.

I really want to watch the movie, but I'm going from New Jersey and right now we have snow here and it's so hard to get to NYC in this situation, is there any chance to keep showing the movie next weekend? Feb 15-16 ? Or are we going to see it here in New Jersey soon?
