How do travelers change the remote places they visit, and how are they changed? This new documentary film offers answers - some heartbreaking, some hopeful.

From the Bolivian jungle to the party beaches of Thailand and from the deserts of Timbuktu, Mali to the breathtaking beauty of Bhutan, the film shows the unanticipated impact of tourism on cultures, economies, and the environment, tracing some stories over 30 years. Through serious and at times humorous reflection, backpackers and local inhabitants tell startling stories of transformation.

"Cleverly edited and beautifully shot...An absorbing look at how tourism has altered the ecology, geography and culture of some of the world's most beautiful and remote areas"
-ó Glenn Sumi, NOW Toronto

Was it really necessary to call the film "Gringo Trails?" After all, the word "gringo" is just as racist as the "N" word for blacks or the "S" word for Hispanics?
