OCCUPATION: DREAMLAND is a stunningly candid portrait of a squad of the US Army's 82nd Airborne deployed in the doomed Iraqi city of Falluja during the winter of 2004.

A collective study of the squad unfolds as they cope with an environment of low-intensity conflict and confusion creeping steadily towards catastrophe. Through the squad's activities, OCCUPATION: DREAMLAND provides a vital glimpse into the last days of Falluja before a final series of assaults began in the spring of 2004 that effectively destroyed the city. The result is a revealing, sometimes surprising look at Army life, combat operations and the complexity of America's war in the 21st century.

A very impressive documentary, which has changed my image of soldiers. Everyone who wants to know more about what the US army is actually doing in Iraq should see this film.

Extraordinary and not to be missed! This film is an intelligent and compassionate look at those on the front-lines of America's supposed "War Against Terror". Occupation: Dreamland encourages audiences to think critically and to reject easy answers. A welcome and even-handed antidote to glib-patriotism and sound-bite-logic.

Film is okay in that it garners several opinions from soldiers, but too many soldiers make the story confusing in terms of who said what. Directors attempt to create drama out of banal situations, such as mines blowing up in far away places. Film is best when instructions are given to soldiers, otherwise the film is 30 mins too long when focusing on annoying conversations which are placed in the film just because other crucial situations are not captured on film or did not occur. Make no mistake about it: the documentary makes no attempt to take a stand. It let's the viewer decide for themselves. In doing so, however, it reduces the "war against terror" as an opinion poll. In shirt, the film is 48 mins of CNN, FOX, or CNBC interviews with soldiers, and 10 mins of Democracy Now, and 20 mins of jabber.

This movie gives a close-up view of what it has been like to be a U.S. soldier in Iraq. Its probablyabout as close to the truth as one can achieve on this subject. We see the soldiers breaking into people's homes, seizing men and placing them manacled and hooded on trucks, responding to roadside bombs. We hear them having "informal discussions" with ordinary citizens through translators, running through alleyways looking for possible attackers. A vitally important piece of reality.
