Nearly 60 years later, he walks that same bridge, joined in purpose by a new generation of organizers like Charles Douglas III, who fights for voting rights door by door. American Dignity is an intergenerational reflection on the endurance of movements, the weight of history, and the courage required to keep marching—no matter what lies ahead. Filmed and directed by Hanson Hosein over the first three weeks of January 2025 to capture a crucial post-presidential election moment, the documentary culminates in its final day of field production on the streets of Washington D.C. on Inauguration Day. The two Charles' voices -- free of narration, almost as if an on-the-scene podcast conversation --drive the story, making it clear that movements cannot depend on singular heroes. They must be sustained by the many, by those willing to step up—again and again.
