Shortly after comic artist Adam (Augustus Prew) responds to Internet trolls, he begins experiencing sleep paralysis — while an empty rocking chair moves in the corner of his apartment. As he chronicles increasingly malevolent occurrences in a series of tweets, Adam begins to believe he is being haunted by the ghost of a dead child named David. Encouraged by his boss to continue the “Dear David” thread, Adam starts to lose his grip on what is online…and what is real. Based on the viral Twitter thread by BuzzFeed comic artist Adam Ellis.

A QUESTION FOR OTHER VIEWERS OF "DEAR DAVID"
October 17, 2023
I HAVE A QUESTION FOR THE OTHER VIEWERS OF "DEAR DAVID": IN THE MOMENT BEFORE ADAM GETS COMFORTED BY HIS BOSS, HE RECEIVES A MESSAGE ON HIS COMPUTER THAT SEEMS TO BE A THREAT, & THEN GETS UPSET ABOUT IT. WHEN ADAM'S BOSS STARTS TO CMFORT HIM, THE CAMERA PANS BACK TO HIS COMPUTER, BUT THERE'S A DIFFERENT MESSAGE ON IT. I SOMEHOW MISSED THE FIRST MESSAGE. IF ANYONE WHO IS READING THIS SAW THE FIRST MESSAGE, WOULD YOU BE ABLE TO PUT IT IN THE "WRITE A REVIEW" SECTION FOR THIS FILM? THANK YOU.

INTRIGUING- THOUGH SOMEWHAT ODD- VOYAGE INTO PERSONAL NIGHTMARES

ONE OF THE THINGS THAT I LIKED BEST ABOUT "DEAR DAVID" IS HOW YOU SEE FROM THE BEGINNING HOW THE INTERNET CAN BECOME A DANGER ZONE. AS SOON AS YOU SEE THE YOUNG BOY AT THE BEGINNING OF THE FILM RESPOND TO AN INTERNET TROLL BY WRITING, "WHY ARE YOU SO MEAN?" , WE START A JOURNEY IN WHICH THE TROLLS WILL BE ABLE TO EXERT AN INFLUENCE THAT WILL BECOME HARDER & HARDER TO SHAKE OFF- AND THEN SEE HOW THE MAIN CHARACTER, ADAM (AUGUSTUS PREW) BECOMES MORE & MORE VULNERABLE TO THEIR TAUNTS- EVEN AFTER HIS CO-WORKER, ELEANOR (ANDREA BANG) TELLS HIM, "THE MORE YOU FEED THE TROLLS, THE STRONGER THEY BECOME." I ALSO THOUGHT THAT THERE WAS SOMETHING SO TOUCHING ABOUT HOW ADAM'S BOSS (JUSTIN LONG) COMFORTED HIM WHEN HE GETS A THREATENING E-MAIL- & THE SOFT & TENDER TONE THAT Mr. LONG USED IN THIS SCENE MADE HIS CHARACTER APPEAR ESPECIALLY CARING. I ALSO LIKED THE FACT THAT ADAM & HIS PARTNER, KYLE (RENE ESCOBAR, JR) RECONCILED AT THE END OF THE FILM, & THE CONCILIATORY TONE THAT MR. ESCOBAR USED WHEN HE SAID THAT HE WAS SORRY THAT HE DIDN'T BELIEVE HIM EARLIER MADE THE SCENE EVEN MORE TOUCHING. HOWEVER, I WAS PUZZLED AS TO WHY DIRECTOR JOHN MC PHAIL & SCREENWRITERS MIKE VAN WAES & EVAN TURNER DIDN'T END THE FILM WITH THAT SCENE. INSTEAD, THEY ENDED IT WITH A WOMAN WHO HADN'T BEEN SEEN EARLIER SEEMINGLY TALKING TO ADAM IN A CHAT ROOM- WHAT HAPPENED TO HER IN THE FINAL MOMENT oF THE FILM MADE THE ENDING SEEM EVEN ODDER.
