Synopsis:

A charismatic conman (Jason Sudeikis) sets up a legendary car maker (Lee Pace) but nobody wins, not even the FBI.

Set in early 1980's California, the story follows the rise of John DeLorean, and his iconic DeLorean Motor Company, through his friendship with charming ex-con turned FBI informant, Jim Hoffman, played by Jason Sudeikis. Hoffman and his wife (Judy Greer) become besties with DeLorean (played by Lee Pace) and his wife. Trouble begins when Hoffman is given an easy way out of his legal problems by setting his new friend up for an FBI agent leading a desperate DeLorean to agree to a sketchy cocaine transaction in order to save his failing business.

It's a perfectly cromulent crime-doesn't-pay narrative, elevated slightly by director Hamm's unapologetic love of period kitsch and engaging performances from Sudeikis, Judy Greer and Corey Stoll.

Driven is a short and sweet supernatural romp that never gets boring and somehow manages to pack laughs into what could be a very intense storyline in another film.

No shortage of striking images. A rewatch may be rewarding.

This is not social realism in the style of Ken Loach, but it is a film with a strong sense of outrage.
