INTRIGUING- BUT TOO VIOLENT- CRIME DRAMA

October 24, 2021
WHEN YOU FIRST LEARN THAT THE MAIN CHARACTER, JAKE, IS LOOKING FOR HIS MISSING DAUGHTER, YOU AUTOMATICALLY FEEL SYMPATHETIC TO HIM. BUT, WHEN HE STARTS TO KILL PEOPLE, IT BECOMES HARDER TO FEEL SYMPATHY FOR HIM. IT'S ESPECIALLY TROUBLING WHEN HE KILLS TWO POLICE OFFICERS BECAUSE THERE'S ALREADY SO MUCH VIOLENCE AGAINST POLICE OFFICERS. AND THE FINAL ACT OF VENGEANCE WAS COMPLETELY UNECESSARY BECAUSE THE TWO PEOPLE KILLED WERE ALREADY IN POLICE CUSTODY, AND WOULD PROBABLY HAVE BEEN CONVICTED. RICHARD DREYFUSS GAVE THE SAME COMPETENT PERFORMANCE HE GAVE IN "CRIME STORY," BUT I'D LIKE TO SEE HIM GO BACK TO DOING MORE THAN JUST GIVING CONVINCING DELIVERY OF HIS DIALOGUE.
