IN MY LAST COMMENT, I MISTAKENLY SAID THAT SANDRA HULLER WASN'T NOMINATED FOR BEST ACTRESS FOR "ANATOMY OF A FALL." I AM HAPPY TO FIND OUT THAT I WAS WRONG. OFCOURSE, I WOULD BE EVEN HAPPIER IF GRETA LEE HAD BEEN NOMINATED FOR BEST ACTRESS FOR "PAST LIVES:" & THAT CELINE SONG HAD BEEN NOMINATED FOR BEST DIRECTOR!

GOOD NEWS! "PAST LIVES" HAS BEEN NOMINATED FOR BEST FILM!
January 18, 2024
I AM HAPPY TO SEE THAT "PAST LIVES" & "ANATOMY OF A FALL" WERE BOTH NOMINATED FOR BEST FILM- ESPECIALLY SINCE "ANATOMY OF A FALL" WASN'T SUBMITTED TO THE ACADEMY FOR CONSIDERATION FOR BEST FOREIGN FILM BY THE FRENCH FILM BOARD. (I WISH THAT BOARD OF GOVERNORS OF THE OSCARS WOULD CHANGE ITS POLICY OF ONLY ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR BEST FOREIGN FILM IF THEY ARE SUBMITTED BY THEIR COUNTRIES' FILM BOARDS. THAT POLICY LED TO THE DENIAL OF BEST FOREIGN FILM AWARDS TO THE TWO BEST FOREIGN FILMS OF ALL TIME- "AUTUMN SONATA" (1978) & "THE STORY OF ADELE H" (1975). THE WORST PART OF THAT POLICY IS THAT THE 1978 OSCAR FOR BEST FOREIGN FILM WENT TO "GET OUT YOUR HANDKERCHIEFS"- THE WORST MOVIE TO WIN BEST FOREIGN FILM). I'M GLAD THAT JUSTINE TRIET WAS NOMINATED FOR BEST DIRECTOR FOR "ANATOMY OF A FALL," BUT I WOULD HAVE LIKED TO HAVE SEEN SANDRA HULLER GET NOMINATED FOR BEST ACTRESS. ALSO, I WOULD HAVE LIKED TO HAVE SEEN CELINE SONG NOMINATED FOR BEST DIRECTOR FOR "PAST LIVES" & I WOULD HAVE LIKED TO HAVE SEEN GRETA LEE & TEO YOO NOMINATED IN THE ACTING CATEGORIES.

TENDER EVOCATION OF HOW PEOPLE'S LOVE CAN EXPAND OVER TIME
December 17, 2023
THIS FILM GAVE SUCH A WONDERFUL DEPICTION OF HOW PEOPLE'S FEELINGS OF LOVE CAN CHANGE AND EXPAND DUE TO THE CIRCUMSTANCES IN WHICH THEY FIND THEMSELVES. IT REMINDED ME SO MUCH OF ANOTHER FAMOUS ASIAN FILM- WONG KAR-WAI'S "IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE" & OF MY THREE FAVORITE DAVID LEAN FILMS- "BRIEF ENCOUNTER," "DR ZHIVAGO," & "RYAN'S DAUGHTER." I JUST HOPE THAT DIRECTOR CELINE SONG GETS TO MAKE A FILM ON THE GRAND SCALE OF SOMETHING LIKE "DR ZHIVAGO" OR "RYAN'S DAUGHTER." THOSE BIG EPICS FELL OUT OF FAVOR AFTER THE FINANCIAL FAILURE OF "RYAN'S DAUGHTER" & THE RISE IN POPULARITY OF COUNTER-CULTURAL MEDIOCRITIES LIKE "BONNIE & CLYDE," "EASY RIDER," & "FIVE EASY PIECES." BUT I'M HOPING THAT THE SUCCESS OF "OPPENHEIMER" WILL OPEN THE DOOR FOR MORE GRAND EPICS & MS. SONG WOULD BE THE PERFECT ONE TO DISPLAY IT FROM AN ASIAN PERSPECTIVE.
