Synopsis:

Douglas Brown is a movie star who wakes up to find he is being blackmailed by someone he doesn't know. He calls his agent Jack Girardi who calls Hollywood private detective Frank Manascalpo to sort things out. Frank does well, at first, but he finds the wrong man. He finds an aspiring writer/director Max O'Leary, who is under the mistaken impression that the sudden attention he is receiving might be because Douglas Brown wants to make his movie. He doesn't. In the end, Max does get his big break in Hollywood. Unfortunately, he is going to have to kill someone to get it.

A fun and interesting exploration of Hollywood culture

September 10, 2018
THE BIG TAKE is a dark comedy with a good exchange of horror and comedic moments. It’s full of zany and off-beat characters that are still believable. The story holds your interest and moves along at a nice pace while the soundtrack and cinematography are both outstanding and create a very strong artistic style. The film pokes fun at Hollywood and while the screenwriter/director’s knowledge of cinematic history is evident, he successfully builds upon it to construct his own fresh and original take on things.

Hilarious, Intelligent Satire

First, I’m a huge Dan Hedaya fan and he’s absolutely at his best in this film. I love his deliveries and the narrative plays against his past roles in a very amusing way. Secondly, I enjoyied the surprising and hilarious twists and turns the story takes. It just builds and builds into an outright panic and leaves you laughing hysterically at these sadistically demented characters whom you’ve grown to love because of their insane misbehavior. Zoe Bell is the most endearing and lovable assassin I have ever seen. I was pleasantly surprised by this film. I loved the music, the characters, and fe

Funny, cinematic, and entertaining.

THE BIG TAKE is a very sophisticated, funny, cinematic, and entertaining movie that captures the Hollywood milleu perfectly. It has a sort of Elmore Leonard mixture of tones, very edgy and dangerous, but also amusing. I was never sure what was going to happen next. It is very well written. The plot is really unexpectedly nuts and kept me on alert all the way with unpredictable events.  This film is fundamentally a genre piece with great panache and originality.

This is an action packed romp and absolutely hilarious. Just a great take on Holly wood and all its lovable and hateful sleaziness!
