SUSPENSEFUL ADVENTURE STORY WITH A FEMINIST TWIST

February 20, 2022
I DON'T USUALLY GO TO ACTION FILMS BUT I'M REALLY GLAD THAT I SAW THIS ONE BECAUSE IT SHOWED HOW ONE WOMAN CAN OUTWIT- AND TRIUMPH OVER- THREE MISOGYNIST MALES AND ONE MAN WHO WAS AFRAID TO STAND UP TO HIS MISOGYNIST FRIENDS. IT MADE ME THINK OF THE SCENE IN "THE ACCUSED" WHERE JODIE FOSTER'S CHARACTER SHAMES THE WITNESS TO HER GANG RAPE BY POINTING OUT THAT HIS SILENCE MADE HIM THE WORST ONE OF ALL. BRITTANY ASHWORTH'S POWERFUL PERFORMANCE CERTAINLY SHOWS THAT SHE HAS THE TALENT TO BECOME ANOTHER JODIE FOSTER. (I JUST HOPE THAT SHE CAN AVOID MAKING SOMETHING AS REPUGNANT AS "SILENCE OF THE LAMBS"). WE ALSO GAIN INSIGHT INTO THE REASON FOR THE WEAKNESS OF THE ONE DECENT MALE, REYNOLDS, WHEN ZACH TRIES TO GET HIM TO COVER FOR THE PYCHOTIC MURDERER, JOSH, BY POINTING OUT THAT JOSH CAME TO HIS AID WHEN HE WAS BEING BEATEN BY A SCHOOLYARD BULLY IN THE THIRD GRADE. THAT SCENE MAKES A VERY GOOD POINT ABOUT HOW SOMEONE WHO SAVES YOU FROM BULLY CAN LATER BECOME A BULLY HIMSELF, AND YET CAN MAKE YOU FEEL INDEBTED TO HIM. ALL OF THIS MADE "THE LEDGE" MORE THAN AN AVERAGE SUSPENSE DRAMA.
