When fate brings Belfast teacher JJ into the orbit of self-confessed 'low life scum' Naoise and Liam Og, the needle drops on a hip hop act like no other. Rapping in their native Irish, they lead a movement to save their mother tongue.

THOUGH-PROVOKING FILM THAT IS HARMED BY PRO-DRUGS SLANT
October 3, 2024
THERE SEEM TO BE TWO DIFFERENT FILMS INSIDE THE WORLD OF "KNEECAP." ONE IS A THOUGHT-PROVOKING DRAMA ABOUT THE HARM THAT HAS BEEN DONE TO INDIGENOUS CULTURES BY MORE DOMINANT CULTURES LIKE THE ENGLISH- AS WAS BORNE OUT BY THE POST-SCRIPT AT THE END OF THE FILM THAT POINTED OUT THAT AN INDIGENOUS LANGUAGE DIES OUT EVEY 40 DAYS. BUT I WAS TROUBLED BY THE WAY THAT THE DRUG USE AND DRUG-PUSHING BY THE MAIN CHARACTER, LIAM, AND HIS FRIENDS WAS DEPICTED AS A POSITIVE FORM OF REBELLION. ALL ANYONE HAS TO DO IS READ ABOUT THE MURDERED JOURNALIST VERONICA GUERIN, OR SEE THE FILM ABOUT THER LIFE, IN ORDER TO LEARN THAT DRUG PUSHERS IN IRELAND HAVE DONE JUST AS MUCH HARM TO THE IRISH AS THE ENGISH HAVE DONE. AND DRUG PUSHERS IN THIS COUNTRY SUCH AS THE MAFIA & FRANK LUCAS & HIS COHORTS HAVE DONE JUST AS MUCH HARM TO BLACK PEOPLE AS WHITE SUPREMACISTS HAVE DONE.
