GRIPPING DRAMA WITH ECHOES OF REAL LIFE HORRORS
May 21, 2024
DIRECTOR MICHELLE SCUMACHER SETS THE PERFECT TONE FOR THIS FILM WHEN ONE OF WADE'S (JK SIMMONS) VICTIMS ASKS WHY HE IS DOING WHAT HE IS DOING, HE REPLIES, "DOES IT MATTER?" THIS ECHOES SO MUCH OF WHAT WE ARE SEEING IN THE RANDOM AVTS OF VIOLENCE THAT WE ARE SEEING IN NEW YORK TODAY. AND MS. SCHUMACHER CERTAINLY PICKED THE RIGHT ACTOR FOR THIS WHEN SHE CAST Mr. SIMMONS. THE FIRST TIME I SAW MR SIMMONS IN ANYTHING WAS WHEN HE PLAYED A WHITE SUPREMACIST ON THE TV SERIES, "HOMICIDE." THE CALM, UNEMOTIONAL TONE THAT HE USED WHEN HE SPOUTED HIS HATEFUL RHETORIC MADE IT OBVIOUS THAT HE WAS CONVINCED THAT HE WAS COMPLETELY RIGHT, & THAT IT WAS THE NON-HATEFUL PEOPLE WHO ERRE THE INSANE ONES, & HE IS EQUALLY EFFECTIVE AT DOING THAT HERE. HE ALSO GETS VERY GOOD SUPPORT FROM THE REST OF THE CAST- ESPECIALLY WHEN WE SEE FERNANDA URREJOLA (WHO PLAYS JENNY) DISPLAY A LOOK OF HORROR ON HER FACE WHEN SHE REALIZES WHO THE KILLER IS & ALSO WHEN ISABELLA ANAYA (WHO PLAYS MIRANDA) PUTS ON A MOURNFUL LOOK BEFORE SHE TELLS THE YOUNG MAN WHO COMES TO HER AID ABOUT A TERRIBLE EVENT IN HER PAST. AND THIS FILM DFEFINITELY HAD A MUCH BETTER ENDING THAN "LOVES LIES BLEEDING"!
